Course Details
During this 24-hour course, investigators will gain practical knowledge of commonly encountered controlled substances, including the hazards associated with substances such as fentanyl. Participants will learn to identify drug paraphernalia, recognize routes of ingestion, and distinguish between users and distributors based on investigative indicators.
The course also provides instruction on the responsibilities of personnel involved in undercover operations, including the undercover officer, confidential informant (CI) handler, case detective/agent, cover team members, and supervisors. Attendees will learn how investigations are initiated, how to develop operational plans, and how to gather intelligence through investigative resources. Additional instruction includes deconfliction procedures, management of undercover funds, CI management and
guidelines, required case documentation, and common pitfalls and red flags associated with undercover operations. The course also covers probable cause requirements for search warrants, seizure orders, and related enforcement actions.
As part of the hands-on training, attendees will build paraphernalia props that can be used in undercover operations, agency training, or community outreach programs. All participants will also receive train-the-trainer certification in the use of DetectaChem field test kits.
