Course Details
Presentation will give a historical background as to the history of NICB and what types of investigations they conduct. Information will be provided as to the databases that NICB can make available to law enforcement to assist in many different types of cases. The newest technology with respect to what is available in vehicles will be presented and how it can be utilized by law enforcement.
Ken Smith is a Supervisory Special Agent for the Washington DC Major Medical Task Force which covers Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia and N.E. North Carolina, and has been with NICB for 18 years. Prior to NICB, a Virginia State Bar Professional Standards Investigator for 5 years and retired Detective from the Fairfax County Police Criminal Investigation Bureau, Homicide Squad.
John Bettinger has been a Special Agent with NICB since 2015. Prior to that he was a Montgomery County Police officer for 32 years and was assigned to the Special Investigations Division, Narcotics Section for approximately 23 years. Following that he worked at the Maryland Attorney General’s Office as an investigator in the Medicaid Fraud Unit for approximately 5 years.
Cassie LaSorsa is a Field Intelligence Analyst II for the National Insurance Crime Bureau and has been with NICB for ten years. She is based in Northern Virginia and supports both DC Major Medical Fraud Task Force investigations and Field investigations. Prior to working at NICB, Cassie was a crime analyst at the Winchester (VA) Police Department, and she was a broadcast meteorologist for eight years.
