The National HIDTA Assistance Center has developed a distance learning training program available to the HIDTA Analyst. To some of you, this may be old news as we have had over 300 requests in the last month for the CD to be distributed throughout the HIDTA regions.
The purpose of the distance learning approach to training is to provide information to the HIDTA participating agency members that is timely, available when the participant needs it and is easily accessible and referenced for use at future times.
This no cost informational distance learning CD-ROM entitled "Introduction to Analytical Techniques" was created through a collaborative effort between the NHAC Training and MultiMedia Units. It was designed to provide the Analyst with introductory information into the intelligence cycle, the basic graphical techniques used in the analytical process, and various resources available to the HIDTA Analyst in the course of doing business. The material available includes learning objectives, a CD-ROM, a final examination and a CD-ROM/distance learning evaluation form. Once the exam is completed, it should be returned along with the evaluation form to the NHAC where it will be scored and will earn the participant a certificate of completion.
Topics covered in the CD include:
The program is open to Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement Personnel, Criminal Intelligence Analysts, Crime Analysts, Investigators, Investigative Assistants, Counterdrug Operations Supervisors at all levels and military personnel both active and reserve components assigned to support counterdrug activities in a HIDTA.
The material was compiled through various HIDTA and non-HIDTA sources within the analytical community and has been reviewed and is endorsed by the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA). Ritchie Martinez, President of IALEIA, writes,
"The National HIDTA Assistance Centers Analytical Techniques Training CD, is an excellent training tool that will benefit all HIDTA and other law enforcement analysts. The analytical techniques presented in the CD introduce the student to current basic concepts and practical approaches for the processing, analyzing and producing of intelligence products useful in the counterdrug enforcement effort."
If you are interested in enrolling in the "Introduction to Analytical Techniques" distance learning program, please fill out the enrollment form (PDF file) and fax it to 305-715-7615, Attention: Gladys Sosa. A CD will be mailed within two weeks.
